44. Chartwell

Home to Winston Churchill for over 40 years, Chartwell sits within one of the Kent Downs' finest historic parklands.

Pick up one of the walking guides from the visitor welcome centre and enjoy the hillside gardens that reflect Sir Winston’s love of the landscape and nature. They include the lakes Churchill created, the kitchen garden and the Marycot and a playhouse designed for his youngest daughter Mary.

Beyond the gardens there is an expanse of woodland with looped walking trails.
