Go to Explore Kent and download circular riding routes from the Walks and Rides section, such as the Wye & Crundale Rides and Freedown Rides at St. Margaret’s. All bridleways, byways and short stretches of public road are fully way marked.
The ‘ Ride Kent’ brochure provides details of equestrian facilities throughout the county including riding and pony clubs, carriage driving clubs, riding schools, riding for the disabled and horse sports.
The Toll Rides (off road) Trust, known as TROT operates a network of toll rides in Kent. TROT was established in 1990 by a group of riders who approached farmers to ask if they could pay to ride on specific routes on their farmland. It became a Registered Charity to emphasise that it is a local community led scheme – with all profits going towards opening new safe networks. Go to the TROT website to see how the scheme works, how to obtain day permits and for rides in the area.
Defra’s Conservation Walks & Rides feature a number of bridleways in the Kent Downs. Use the link to search for rides in Kent.
Use Coldblow Farm in Thurnham as a base for exploring the local bridle paths and byways, or as stopover points on long distance rides.
Short breaks can be booked at Cobham Manor Equestrian Centre at Thurnham.
B&B for horses is available at Brenley Farm in Boughton, Homelea in Chilham and Alkham Court in the Alkham Valley near Dover.
Chilham Park is an established top cross country venue and runs a series of events, workshops and cross country courses. It has been short listed as a training ground for the 2012 Olympics. The Park’s livery yard offers both full livery and short term schooling
