Sladden Wood Nature Reserve
Seven hectares of ancient chalk woodland, supporting a diverse mixture of hornbeam, field maple, hazel and ash with bluebell, green hellebore and yellow archangel. It was clear felled in 1978 and had a tree preservation order served on the remaining stumps and felled timber. Natural regeneration, together with the decaying wood, has meant that Sladden is once again particularly rich in wildlife. Good views across the Alkham Valley.
