Making a Mark with Ash

Event Date: 26 August 2017

Event Category: Workshop

Artists such as John Constable, Henry Moore and David Nash have all taken inspiration from landscapes of ash trees. In this afternoon walk we will draw some of the magnificent ash trees and wooded landscapes of the Woodland Trust owned Hucking Estate. Sally Evans from the Mid Kent Downs Countryside Partnership will guide us across the large estate and we will be taught some quick techniques to capture graphic sketches of Ash Trees in the landscape. Using charcoal made from ash wood, as the ash charcoal disappears into the paper we will create new memories of the landscapes of ash.

The Hucking Estate is owned by the Woodland Trust, this large and engaging site offers a mix of ancient woodland, planted secondary woodland and open grassland; together with woodland archaeology remains, wonderful walks, interesting wildlife and breath-taking views and it set in the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

This is a free public event, open to everyone. But places are limited so booking is highly recommended. The walk is suitable for adults and families – accompanied children only. Participants are advised to bring their own sun protection.
