Reinden Wood

Logo | Kent Downs - Area of outstanding natural beauty

This area is steeped in military history going back for centuries. The paths through Reinden Wood, a mixed deciduous and coniferous woodland, are a combination of public bridleway and permissive paths agreed with the MOD. It is a surfaced route for the most part, with some uneven ground. You may meet military personnel or vehicles engaged in military training or the estate staff carrying out forestry work. The land is used for tactical training, using blank ammunition, so be prepared for sudden noises. You will see the remains of surface air raid shelters, part of a Second World War military village.

This wood is an important habitat for woodland plants and butterflies. Information Boards along the walk provide a description of what to look out for. Nightingales nest in the tree tops. They are very secretive birds but if you are lucky you may hear their beautiful song.

You can download a copy of a short walk (2 ½ miles or 4km) by clicking here

You will need to stay on the marked paths to avoid interfering with the military exercises.

Take notice of any signs along the walk.

For your own safety do not touch any unfamiliar objects
