Perry Wood is a truly unique spot with jutting mounds of sand and heathland wildlife amid the rolling chalk of the Downs. Its position in the landscape with fantastic views to the coast and countryside means that it has a rich history. The view point called The Mount was used as part of a semaphore chain, sending messages from London to the Kent ports.
Lovely woodland walks. Panoramic Views across the Kent countryside. A short easy access route suitable for wheelchairs or more adventurous walks up and down the slopes of the woodland. Picnic site.
Start your walk at the carpark, carefully cross the road and follow the carved fingerposts which will lead you through the woods, around the side of Windmill Hill (no windmill anymore) then down to the Rose and Crown pub where you could stop for refreshments before following the fingerposts back to the car park. Look out for carvings of a fly agaric, beech, badger, scots pine, birch, rowan, fox, holly and ivy, sweet chestnut, owl, heather and oak.
